The Thénardiers, Valjean, and Javert were fantastic. Fantine and (adult) Cosette's singing lacked distinct personality, making them seem interchangeable. The singing is sometimes over-acted and spoken, hindering the emotional delivery of the music.
The audience behavior at the Orpheum Theater was my main concern. Throughout the play, there was constant chattering and whispering. Ushers were flashing distracting lights during the initial 30 minutes. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a lack of timely warnings during the intermission, as people were still finding their seats 5 minutes into the performance, disrupting Eponine's solo song.
While personal preferences may vary on staging and directing, the Orpheum's audience management has me questioning future visits, especially with the high ticket prices.
